1/6/12

We invite you to become a member of the PeaceWeaver Organic CSA for 2012...

Belonging to our Farm is the easiest and least expensive way to get the freshest and most nutritious variety of organic vegetables in our region during the growing season.

What is a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)? CSA's are an alternative way of connecting farmers and consumers that insures fresher, better quality, healthier food for the consumer and a guaranteed market for the farmer. Individuals, couples and families sign up in the winter to receive a weekly share of the vegetable harvest during the growing season. People are asked to sign up ahead of time because this is when we order all our seeds and supplies for the year.
Benefits of Membership
Save Money - Getting vegetables through a CSA saves you money because you buy directly from the grower without any mark-up or shipping costs. Compared to grocery store prices, pound for pound, food purchased through a CSA gives you greater savings.
Healthy for You, Healthy for the Earth - Our veggies have maximum nutrition because you get them the same day they are picked. Recent scientific studies show that organically grown produce has on average 25% more vitamins and minerals than non-organic produce. In addition, our vegetables do not have the health detractors of pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilizers, waxes and resins which not only tax your health but also the health of the planet.

Our Promise & Sharing the Risk - We promise you to do our best to provide affordable, healthy, fresh organically grown food. In turn, our members agree to share the risk of growing food with us. That is, if we have cold, wet weather in the summer, we may have a smaller harvest.   On the flip side our members risk getting "more than they pay for" when we have great weather and bumper crops. Typically we have an abundant harvest.  Shares are non-refundable.

Overall, belonging to a CSA is not simply about getting great vegetables. It's about being part of a movement that is boosting local economies as well as reclaiming healthy food, unspoiled land, air and water for ourselves and generations to come.

How do I become a member?
First you need to decide whether you'd like to be a working member or a non-working member.

Non-working members enjoy the convenience of picking up their share of vegetables each week at our Farm outside of Bath or at pick-up points in Corning or Hornell.

Working members appreciate cultivating their gardening skills in a beautiful environment with others who appreciate healthy living. The fresh air, exercise and community of kind hearts bring people back year after year to help plant, grow, weed, and harvest delicious veggies together.

Working shares are only $280 and Non-working shares are only $430 for four months (18 weeks) of fresh-picked produce!
How big is a Share?
A Full Share will generally meet the needs of two adults who are avid vegetable eaters or a family of four who eat vegetables in moderate amounts. If you are interested in purchasing a Share but feel that it may be too many vegetables for you, we encourage you to find someone else or another couple to split your share with you. Thus, you each pay for half the share and split the vegetables between you each week. If it's a working share, you can split the work time.

See list below of vegetables typically included in a Share.

When does the Harvest Season begin?
We will begin harvesting the week of June 18th and distribute shares weekly through the week of October 15th - four months or 18 weeks' worth of produce.

** Please indicate if you want to be a Working Member or Non-working Member.

* Non-working members must indicate which pick-up location you prefer: at the Farm, in Corning or Hornell. Farm pick-ups are Monday evenings after 7pm or Thursdays after noon, Corning pick-ups are on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons, Hornell pick-up is Thursday afternoon.

* Working members must indicate when they'd like to work - either Monday evenings from 5-7pm or Thursday mornings from 10am-noon (June 18th - Oct 18th). We ask working members to commit to one of those time slots for the whole growing season. If you are out of town and miss your work time, you can simply forfeit your vegetables for that week. Or you can ask someone else to work for you and have them pick-up your veggies.
